Getting On Track and Staying There

God's Purpose For The Bible

All Scripture is God-breathed (inspired) and is useful (profitable) for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim. 3:16-17 (NIV)

1- Ever feel like you have lost your direction?

2- There is power in purpose! (Mission - Vision!)

3- Aimlessness is probably the most costly of human traits. (Even more than laziness!)

4- God has a reason for all that He does – this certainly includes the Bible.

The Bible was given for several very clear reasons.  (Help you get your life on track and stay there!)

1-  Bible Was Given To Use Past Experience For Teaching. (1 Cor. 10:1-12)

(Explains How We Got/Get Off the Track!!!!)

1.)    To teach us through the mistakes others have made! (DonÕt re-invent the wheel spiritually)

2.)    You do not have to make those mistakes again. (2 Tim 3:17)

Mt 22:29 Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. (NIV)

3.) Bible is the Great Guidebook to life and eternity. (Character – personality – relationships - family)

2 TIM 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

2- The Bible Was Written To Give us Knowledge of Eternal Life. (On Track!!!)

1 JOHN 5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know  that you have eternal life. (NIV)

1.)    You can know that you have eternal life!

and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 2 Tim 3:15 (NIV)

2.)  You should know! [Without excuse!]

3.)  You must know, if you have any hope of ever being saved!

            4.)  Illus. Ency card # 4403

3- The Bible Was Given To Bring Hope to Men. (Staying on Track!!!)

ROM 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. (NIV)

1.)  If we need anything it is a little HOPE that we can make it!

2.)  God is ÒableÓ to get you through!!!!

Heb 7:25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. (NIV)

3.)  The greatest hope comes in the form of confidence in the return of Jesus!

TITUS  2:13 while we wait for the blessed hope--the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior,             Jesus Christ,

4.)  We can have this hope because Jesus is not dead but Alive.

1 PET 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (NIV)

Application.  The Bible was given to help you get back on track and stay there!!!!  2 Tim. 3:16-17 (text)

How do you get on track and stay there?

Hear, Read, Study, Obey and Share the Word of God!!!
Learn By Examples in the Word of God.

1 COR 10:1 For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. 2 They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. 3 They all ate the same spiritual food 4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. 5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert. 6 Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: "The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in pagan revelry." 8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did--and in one day (23,000) twenty-three thousand of them died. 9 We should not test the Lord, as some of them did--and were killed by snakes. 10 And do not grumble, as some of them did--and were killed by the destroying angel. 11 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. 12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! (NIV)
